African style week, pt 1

So, i will be posting in 5-photo sets. The pictures also include historical drawings.

“I included mostly pictures of Africans dating anything from about 120 years ago to modern day. I also included any relevant paintings the depicted African hairstyles accurately. Some of these pictures are sketches that the British made when they came to colonize Nigeria and other West African countries. Sorry, I’m Igbo and Nigerian so my bias is more collecting pictures of ancient Igbos than anyone else. There are also quite a number of pictures of other cultures there, but it is mostly West African in general and Nigerian/Igbo in particular.” ~sugabelly

  1. you know what gets me is that these people all look so proud of their hair. They took so much effort to be creative, and to show them off. it’s kinda sad how we seemed to have lost most of that confidence. somewhere along the line we believed the lies that who we werewas not good enough.i’m happy there is ‘nappylution’ going on, we need to just be proud of our roots!
