friday afternoon fun: share your spritz concoction…. feel like a superstar

Hey Leila!
First up, THANKS!! I’ve been following the blog really hard lately and it’s taking me on another journey of taking better care of my hair (MOISTURIZING, protecting, being gentle, etc). So thanks to you for the blog and all of the other followers. Ok, I want to use a daily spritz for my hair. I used to use the one on Motown Girl’s website … I have the following ingredients now: Lemon essential oil, Peppermint essential oil, castor oil, distilled water, MSM (L says ~ a sulfur-based hair growth supplement), coconut oil and Afro Detangler leave in conditioner. I was curious to know out of those ingredients, which ones would be beneficial to mix together to create a spritz or maybe have more than one spritz. I’m also curious to know if any of the other followers of the blog use a spritz and if so, what’s in their spritz bottle?
Thanks!
Khyla

your spritz concoction sounds fine. except i would take out the castor oil, since it’s better at sealing hair. i’ve heard really good things about afro detangler, so that’s great that it’s in there.

ok now let ‘er rip ladies… what’s in your spritz bottle?!

my spritz is not highly evolved AT ALL since i just started incorporating it into my regimen. i’ve been using suave coconut conditioner distilled with water.

um, it’s okay. when i first started, my conditioner to water ratio was too high. so i had to really distill the conditioner out before i felt it was having an impact. once it was more watery, i did notice that my hair stayed softer for longer in the day.

of course, i pair my spritz with a cream and an oil…

my spritz bottle has filtered water with conditioner ( its either a leve in like like sheamoisture, yes to cucumbers or alba, or a rinse out like aubrey organics honeysuckle rose. wih a lil oil added and some times i add msm as well)…another is filtered water with oilice oil castor or what ever else i have on hand with a few essential oils

My spritz is Motown Girl’s homemade spritz with Sta Sof Fro sub. for the conditioner with a few drops of lavender and rosemary essential oils.

No spritz for me, I wet my hair at night, apply some conditioner (herbal essences hello hydration intensive mask – has coconut oil or l’occitane en provence hair cream – has shea butter) and seal that with jojoba oil.

I am a low manipulation person in braids most days, so I don’t have too much trouble staying moisturised.

@ Jc… i feel you. i think spritzing is more important for those who wear their hair “out” and not in protective styles.

Hello ladies! I’ve just begun spritzing (and I have my boyfriend spritzing now as well :-D) and I use water that I boiled (with a little honey and a teeny bit of melted shea butter), almond oil and a leave in conditioner. A new found friend at my job sells natural oils, shea butter and all kinds of goodies, so I will be experimenting in the coming weeks…
That mixture was my first attempt, it made my hair really soft and it smelled good as well.

My spirtz is just water and VO5 conditioner (can we say amazing slip?) I just recently started using it though. I saw rose water at a Indian store (I was looking for Henna) for like $2.49 so I may start using that since I’ve hear good things about it

I’m very wary about creating my own spritzes because water is a haven for bacteria and you have to get the ratio of preservative to product just right to prevent spoilage. Instead, I buy commercial rosewater spritzes that are meant for the face and use that on my hair. Right now I’m really loving this one (http://www.vitacost.com/Reviva-Labs-Rosewater-Facial-Spray-576-R) which has rosewater, glycerin, aloe, vegetable oil and a whole bunch of herbal extracts. Basically, everything I need to keep my hair moisturized and healthy.

Well since I keep my hair braided a month at a time now. I spritz it with water, nasabb's Kelechi hair oil *contains almond oil, castor oil, wheat germ oil, olive oil, lavender oil & peppermint oil. I then add some jojoba oil and glycerin and shake it up. Since I moisturize with sheabutter mixed with glycerin the watery spritz for me helps keep my hair soft and constantly moisturized…think i've done this for 3 weeks now. I keep my spritz watery it helps with the glycerin already in my hair IMO.

    *Water
    *Nexxus Conditioner
    *Olive Oil
    *Peppermint Oil
    ***Sometimes, melted shea butter…

…the best thing for my hair, and I’ve recently found this out.

My spritz is also a pretty simple one – just lavendar eo and water :o)

I also make one that I learned on Nappturality – steeped rosemary (made from tea) and lavendar. If I plan to keep it for a while I also sage as a preservative and keep it in the fridge.

    Both are really simple.

    My spritz consists of:
    Water
    Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose Conditioner
    Vegetable Glycerin
Essential Oils (Peppermint, Lavendar, Ylang Ylang, Chamomile)

I create my spritz in a 12 oz. spray bottle and it usually last about a month on averaage.

Many essential oils act as ntural perservatives and I’ve never had a spritz go rancid.

    Natural Essential Oils preservatives are:

Tea tree, Eucalyptus, Lavender, Grapefruit Seed Extract, Neem Oil, Rosemary Extract, and Vitamin E (d-alpha Tocopherol).

I definitely spritz when lose but also spritz when in twists to wake them up in the morning along with the steam of the shower.

I use food grade rose water or orange blossom water (rose water if my hair feels a little dry), 1/3 glycerine and several drops of either rose essential oil or neroli and geranium.

I followed the msm concoction from youtube.com. {google: nappy update}. I emailed this concoction who lives over 500 miles away. We both begin to use the spritz at the same time. Why are we BOTH losing our hair? We do not know what to do to stop it. The hair is leaving from the roots EVERYDAY!! It itches, tingles and burns. We have tried everything yet our hair is not just breaking but HUGE BALD SPOTS. My God this woman did not even mention a leave-in detangler or anything of that nature. I did my homework and every place I read said that msm was great to use topically on the hair. I am so frustrated and angry that I caused my sister to lose her hair as well as myself, but what bothers me is that we can not get the breakage to STOP. Can someone help us?

erm… it sounds like an allergic reaction of some sort, especially if your hair is still falling out after you rinsed it out. I recommend going to see a dermatolagist before you lose anymore hair. And for future references, when you are trying out something new, it's best to try it on a small section to see what effect it has before using it all over. HTH

My spritz mix is 1 part water, 1 part aloe vera gel and a tiny bit of honey. It smells good, is very moisturizing and provides a bit of hold when used with a satin scarf. I love it!
