This was originally put up a few months back but taken down because of posting difficulties. Having worked the kinks out, I’m reposting it now…

BGLH: Where are you from?
HaitianRoots: born in port au prince, haiti. bred in the burbs of chicago.
BGLH: How many years have you been natural?
HaitianRoots: my last relaxer was in 1999. i chopped in may of 2000, so i’m almost at my 10 year anniversary!
BGLH: How did you come up with this style?
HaitianRoots: i had actually checked out something similar at she.2petite and a couple of other fotki and natural sites and wanted to try it. i wanted to create an updo that was clean yet funky. i love curls and wanted to show them in a sophisticated style.
BGLH: How do you do it? What products do you use to do it?
HaitianRoots: i two stranded my hair and then twisted them to the point where i could twist them into a knot. i twisted on semi-damp hair. put a scarf, went to sleep, woke up, took down the bantus and untwisted the twists and voila! after that, just tucked and pinned to get this look. the products i used were water, a lil’ shea butter and this homemade product i was trying out that an acquaintance made. it should be out in market within the next year or so. it holds curls very well without hardening.
BGLH: On what occasions do you rock this style?
HaitianRoots: this was actually my Easter look but i would where something like this for a date night out with the hubby. it also is very professional in style so if i had a job to go to, i’d rock it to the office.
BGLH: How does your natural hair work for your life?
HaitianRoots: this is an interesting question…not exactly sure how to respond. i mean, my hair is me. i can say it probably enhances my “style” since i believe that natural hair texture is so wonderfully unique. so on special occasions and/or outings i mos def think about how i’m going to style my hair and how it will effect the overall “look” that i’m desiring. never had an issue with it as a professional employee. now that i’m a grad student, twists, bantus, and yarn braids have been my friends because i don’t have to worry about styling. as a wife, all i can say is that the hubby loves my hair so he does weigh in on styling at times. he’s a huge fan of the all-simple puff; which ironically, i don’t rock that often.
i do have a love/hate relationship with my hair. so right now i am thinking about doing a major chop. but because i’m a planner, i can’t just go ahead and do it. i have to research a style, a stylist/beautician to consult. discussed with the husband and i said if i’m still feeling the way that i’m feeling around my 30th b-day than i will be starting a new journey with my hair once i turn 30.
