Where are you from?
T: I am from PG County, Maryland. I currently work as an administrative assistant, sales associate at Urban Outfitters, and personal assistant to Designer Kenny “KAS” Flannagan of Kas Collection Inc. (www.kascollectioninc.com). I am also an aspiring fashion designer, so working with Kas has been a wonderful experience for me.
When did you go natural?
T: I went natural October of 08. I cut my relaxed hair short after my high school graduation and stopped getting relaxers soon after. I was tired of chemically processing my hair, so natural was the only way to go.
Was it difficult at all?
T: Transitioning wasn’t difficult at all, and all my family and friends loved my hair. My grandmother was especially happy that I was going back natural, she didn’t want me to ever get a relaxer lol. My jobs are all very laid back so wearing my hair to work hasn’t been difficult at all.
What do you like about being natural?
T: I love the low maintenance, all I do is braid it up at night and take it out in the morning, put some moisturizer in it and I’m good to go.
Has anything in your life changed at all since going natural?
T: Nothing significant lol, I probably get a lot more compliments now because of my hair though.
What style do you like to rock?
T: I really like rocking my fro, and I am still trying out different styles.
Can you give a tutorial for one of your styles?
T: 1) After washing and conditioning hair, moisturize hair as you normally would. (I like to use Shea butter)
2) Begin to part hair in sections and twist hair starting at the back and working your way to the front.
3) Once your hair is fully twisted, use bobby pins to pin hair up in a style of your choice.
I really like this style because it is easy and doesn’t take long to do (your arms may get tired though). This style lasts for a while, just tie your hair up at night with a nice scarf.
What do you use in your hair?
T: I use Carol’s Daughter Hair Milk, and Lisa’s Hair Elixir, as well as Shea Butter. I’m still looking for products to try, and this blog has helped me a lot with that, I love the product reviews.
If your hair had a nickname, what would it be? Why?
T: E. Badu lol, everyone always calls me that anyway because of my hair, not to mention, I LOOOOVE her haha.
Is there a blog/webpage where we can find you?
