Yummy, yummy, in my tummy and my hair! ^_^

Don’t be surprised, beloved readers. Like honey (see my review) and Blackstrap molasses (see my review), maple syrup is a humectant. What’s a humectant?

Behold!
Merriam-Webster defines it as thus: A substance that promotes retention of moisture.
(Source: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/humectant)

These attributes make this a staple in my deep conditions!

It also has another pair of very important characteristics:
It won’t lighten the hair like honey and isn’t a horrific mess like Blackstrap molasses.

I love my jet-black hair. Mysterious, innocent and alluring all at once, it’s a dramatic, head turning color born of a dominant gene with a dominant attitude.

Thus, it frustrates me to no end to have a honey-packed conditioner turn my roots copper red. No fears of that with my darling maple syrup. It lacks honey’s ability to produce peroxide. Interested in using honey to lighten your hair? See my honey review. ^_^

Other bonuses include its low price, depending on the brand, it’s very forgiving when eyeballing how much you pour into your deep condition mix, has a soft sweet smell, it isn’t terribly sticky and is easily mixed into your deep conditions. It’s definitely a keeper for me.

Please, please, please my loves:
Make sure you use the real deal! Use nothing with High Fructose Corn Syrup, artificial colors, flavors, preservatives and the like. “Fake” pancake syrups won’t do you any good.

Any brand of PURE maple syrup will do. I haven’t used organic brands and still benefit greatly…though, as your scalp is absorbing this…organic is best. I’m better about using organic everything, food-wise these days.

From my thick hair to my relatives with fine hair this performs superbly!

Bonus: Adorable little bottles in your fridge! ^o^

Uses:
Deep condition add-in
Maple syrup + coconut or avocado oil = humectant/oil pack for thirsty hair

From my mane to yours: Baa. Baa. Baa.

Translation: Happy Hair Growing! ^_^

Ohhh! I really want to try this, especially since it’s a bit colder in Florida and I want to make my transitioning period smooth.

Does it matter what GRADE of 100% Pure maple syrup you use? i did not know honey lightened hair! Dammit, I don’t want lighter hair. In fact, I want to try Henna and Indigo for the first time ever before the month is over to make my hair DARKER

If you don’t want to lighten your hair, swap the maple syrup for unsulphered black strap molasses.
