Weave, kinky twists, box braids? How do you give your hair a break when you’ve been messing with it too much? And why does your protective styling method work best for you?

wigs are the best for me during winter…i cornrow my hair underneath for about 3weeks straight, then my usual deep condition regime ..i’ve been able to retain a lot of length and my hair is thick
Firstly may I say how much I’m lovin your page!!!!!….I’m telling all who will listen about u, n about going natural lol :-). Having a little problem finding some of the products u guyz mention though eg ‘Kinky Kurly’ in UK.
I have, just (2weeks ago) cut out the last of my relaxed hair.
I have been mostly putting my hair in extended braids and half weaves where I have braiding in the front of my head with my own hair – for about a year (so have a decent length now). I would however like to get some natural lookin wigs? like a nice afro?…. or something none straight….I like to see n feel my own hair and give it air so trying to stay away from the weave, half or otherwise. After a light (not done till straight!)blow-out I’ve worn my hair in large loose twists (not twisted down to the scalp 7-10 aprox) which I then turn back on themselves and edge with a scarf / head band – lasts about week – looks cute lol. I’m yet to try the smaller twists and Bantu knot outs etc. I found the tutorials on Growblackhair.net brilliant!!! I’m eager to try the Bantu!! she made it look real easy :-)
Definately crochet braids! If you don’t know… get to know! They are perfect for my hair because I have fine hair at the front and back and braid extensions will always break them. Crochet braids don’t pull on my hair at all and i’m still able to keep my own hair moisturised and healthy while they are in. I’ve had them since August (washing and re-doing them every month) and my hair has grown 2 inches! No joke! Praise the Lord! ;)

Twists with the roots braided or a braided bun.
