Weave, kinky twists, box braids? How do you give your hair a break when you’ve been messing with it too much? And why does your protective styling method work best for you?
Once a week wash and go. Satin cap each night. Little spritz in the morning and wash again the next week. No fuss and very little involvement with my hair during the week. Super low-maintenance.
Kinky Twists and Flat twists you can leave them in longer and you wont how to worry about it looking old or anything because that is the look kinky and it blends well with my 4a/4b hair and since I want to grow out my TWA and I have the hand in the hair syndrome this gives my and my hair a break.
I do my kinky twists like erri day! I like to do them really small for one week so then when I take it down next week for my twist out fro it looks divine! :)

i always go for kinky twist first and four most because it still lokks good with my frizzy hair…right now i am wearing box braids because i wanted a change of style. But its only been two weeks and its very fuzzy and old looking…I’ll see if i can hold out for 2 more weeks because i’m not really missing my hair right now.
Definitely twists, half wigs, and wigs have been in heavy rotation with me this year. I also love doing yarn braids and yarn twists because they are easy to care for and look better the older they get :)
I love two-strand twists. Mostly because they’re the only thing I really know how to do, lol, but also because I can put them in any size, it shows off my length and I can style it the way I would style loose hair. They’re also super easy to take out.
Kinky twists sound interesting and it is something that I would like to add to my routine. I’m going to have to do some research and figure out the difference between that and regular two-strand twists.
My last relaxer was April 2009. During the summer I did some creative braided styles but since October I have my in semi micro braids – not too small and not too big. I keep them in a max of 2 months. I’ve noticed great growth by doing this. I also do hot oil treatments, deep condition my scalp and new growth with Cholesterol and grease the scalp with pure coconut oil.
Two strand twists are definitely my go to protective style. I’ve finally mastered my twisting technique so every time I do them they look better than the last time. I keep mine in for 2 weeks, then I rock a twist out for a few days, then wash and go right back to the twists.
I couldn’t do a twist if it came with a shout.
I’m not hair savvy at all like that.
So . . .
I get my hair braided with extensions during the winter and keep them on for 4-5 months.
(Lots of growth occurs during these months, mind you!)
Now that it’s spring and the extensions are out, I braid my own hair at night in big chunks and unbraid them in the morning to style.
I used to twist my hair for protective styling but always took them out after two weeks. (I guess I’ll go back to this in the summer) this winter I tried braids (my own hair) and currently, I’m in the 4th week of my 5 week final winter protective styling. this is the longest I’ve had a style in my hair. I’m going to Miami in May so until then, I’ll put bigger twists in and maybe cornrows. In the winter I keep my braids and styles in updo’s to protect my ends. I tend to do small twists in the summer months
Wigs or braids, being overseas I can’t find a braider and my scalp is really tender so I usually shy away from them though I love how they look on me :-)
My hair is too fine for kinky twists or extensions. What I do for a protective style is spit my hair in half and flat – twist it on either side. Then I either clip it up with two barettes at the back of my head or use a small comb to creat a little ‘bump’.
It’s very professional and works on mid-length hair beautifully!
Definitely two-strand twists. Easy to put in, easy to take out, versatile with a bonus twist-out in the end.
I think cornrows are a great protective style and look great! they are also really low maintenance.

weaves and braid are better for me.i keep it 2months max. during that period,i don’t manipulate my hair and it grows fast.

I mainly do braids/cornrows and weaves as my protective styles.

I do braids, falt braids and two strands twist a lot.
And rarely braids extensions
