When did you and your husband meet?
K: We met through a mutual friend while attending Mississippi State University in 2005 and didn’t have any contact after that. When that mutual friend died in May 2007, we exchanged numbers, for emotional support but we still didn’t call each other. One day on Facebook I wished him a happy birthday. Five months later, he did the same on my birthday and from there we started hanging out and have been together since.
When and where did you get married?
K: We got married on Saturday, April 3, 2010 in my hometown of Louisville, Mississippi. My town is small and the biggest attraction is our lake, Lake Tiak-O’Khata. We married at the gazebo that’s lakeside on the resort.
I was pretty down at first because I woke up at 5:46am to THUNDERSTORMS. I thought it was 18 wheelers driving down the small highway next to the resort!! But around 10 am, it stopped and the sun came out and everything turned out better than expected. I was told by other married friends to enjoy every moment because it goes by fast and that’s exactly what I did. It was fun to see all my ideas and hard work come together. I had one uncooperative person and I didn’t turn into a bridezilla so I say the day was a close to perfect as could be.
How did you wear your hair?
K: A twist out with bangs and a small (not as full as I would have liked it) twist-out puff pinned up in the back. (Note: The pictures in this post are of Khyla’s bridal portraits. Professional photos of her wedding hair haven’t come in yet.)
What was your process of deciding how to style your hair?
K: I wanted something that I had never done before. I knew I wanted some sort of up-do because no other style really went with my veil. For my bridal portraits, I needed something I could possibly wear to work because I was taking pics immediately afterwards. I was just looking at YouTube videos one day and saw misskrisnew’s video on the side puff pony.
It was cute…it was an up-do…it was funky….and it was something I had never tried before so that’s where that style came from. But on my wedding day, I wanted something a little more sweet. I was still searching for styles and finally like a week and a half before the wedding prettydimples01 posted her version of Alicia Key’s style for the Sleeping with a Broken Heart video. (Check it out here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90MwRAL03m)
So I followed her tutorial, pinned some of the hair on the side, let some hang in a bang and just pinned up the back….ta daaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!
My bridesmaids who were with my as I was styling were just in awe! Most of them had never seen how I styled my hair, or any natural person for that matter. My family had asked all week how I was going to wear my hair because that week, all they had seen was my hair in a gigantic twist-out and to them, that was just too much so they were happy to see it more tame (booooo!). Hubby loved it course. He loves my natural hair anyway. Part two of our first dance was The Dream – Playing In Her Hair. LOL
