Where do you live?
I live in Miami, Fl but I rep Irvington, New Jersey. I am an HIV/AIDS & Substance Abuse Prevention Counselor

Why did you go natural?
I decided to go natural because of the damage I was doing to my hair with relaxing it and coloring it constantly. I first tried going natural in 2006 but I did not think I would be able to go through with it so I went back to relaxing my hair. Then in 2008 I decided I would go natural and actually followed through. I wore Kinky twists, braids and weaves while transitioning. Once I felt my hair grew to a length that was comfortable for me I cut off the permed ends.

Going natural has affected me in the best way! My hair is definitely a lot healthier. I get stopped all the time by older and younger women (even men) about how I care for my hair or just to simply tell me how beautiful they think my hair is!

How would you describe your hair?
I would have to say I have thick coarse hair (4a/4b). My hair is about 9 to 10 inches long, I am not so much concerned with growing it longer but making sure it’s healthy. My hair is pretty manageable as long as I treat it right!!! That means as long as I detangle properly, condition often, and keep it styled then we get along!

What’s your regimen?
My regimen right now is pretty simple. I shampoo twice a month with Dr. Bronners Castile Soap, I co-wash every week with either Yes to Carrots or with Alba conditioner. I do a deep treatment once a week with either one of my favorite conditioners mixed with olive oil and honey and I use all types of oils as sealants such as olive oil, coconut oil, castor oil, carrot oil etc. I usually twist my hair when I wash every week and at the end of the week that style becomes a twist out before I wash again.

What mistakes have you made with your hair that you’ve learned from?
The number one mistake that I’ve made is the use of heat!! I used to blow dry my hair every time I washed my hair because I hated the fact that my hair would shrink so much. Ive learned how to style my hair despite the shrinkage and because of that my hair is much healthier.

What’s the best/most effective thing you do for your hair?
Deep treatment!! My hair cooperates with me when I do my deep treatments.

Is there a blog/webpage where we can find you?
Yes!!! luvyournaturalhair.blogspot.com and on twitter @Creolelioness. I also sell vintage and retro accessories at www.celaniesvintage.com.
