From time to time I will ask you all to share your experience with certain products. The first, requested by reader Shadajah, are WEN products by stylist Chaz Dean. Have any of you tried? What are your thoughts?

Hi I really love the wen product i have been natural for 3 years now and i just tried this product a month ago using the sweet almond mint conditioner. when i first tried this product i found that it left my hair with a nice shine and it made it very easy to detangle my hair and it last for a long time. Overall I LOVE THIS PRODUCT and will recommend it to anyone. You guys can also check out the natural hair T-Shirts on youtube- Type in symbowlize they are very reasonable with nice natural hair t-shirts!

An impressive share! I have just forwarded this
onto a friend who had been doing a little homework on
this. And he in fact ordered me lunch because I stumbled upon it for him…
lol. So allow me to reword this.… Thanks for the meal!!
But yeah, thanx for spending time to discuss this topic here on your blog.

I am recently natural (2 months) and have been using Wen Fig. Wen factored heavily in my decision to go natural. I was using Wen with my relaxed hair for a month prior to going natural. I had tried Wen in 2009 but found that it dried out my hair and so I stopped using it. Later I realized that I was using the cucumber cleansing conditioner and it is designed for oily hair and so it did what it was designed to do, I just should not have been using it. I also did not follow the directions and… Read more »

i have been researching reviews bc im very intersted in trying this product. not trying 2 freak anyone out but i found a forum with all these black women complaining of significant hair loss, im talking bald spots since using wen.… 1 woman sed when she called them 4 a refund they sed ya we here that a lot?! kinda makes me hesitant.…..

I love WEN. It has done everything that Chaz Dean said it would. All products don’t work for everyone. Just do You!

The ideas it convey has a significance and as a whole I can say you are an wonderful blogger and not to say you’re one of the many blog writers that people should know when it terms to discussing the subject on Baby Grand Piano . Not everybody can write this wonderful weblog and you are one of those people that are gifted with brilliant minds.

I have purchase the WEN products and used them when I was relaxed…loved them, especially the balm. I was going to give them a try for my natural hair, but when I phoned to receive products the representative was so rude!!!

I have used WEN for 3.5 years at least and have had great results. I started out with Sweet Almond Mint and then changed to the Fig formulation for the last few years.

I was relaxed when I first used the product, but this year I have gone natural and my hair just loves the moisure and slip it provides.

My son and other family members have been very impressed by this product.

I’m sure Wen doesn’t work for everyone but I love it! It’s the only product that adds moisture to my hair for longer than an hour. I still wash with a regular or clarifying shampoo every couple weeks and use Wen as a leave in. My hair doesn’t respond well to the long term co-wash thing. I’ve spent a ton of money on conditioners (for leave ins and co-wash) and so far Wen is my fav but it’s pricey. It does keep me from having to mix concoctions of different products and oils though, which I like, because my life… Read more »

please add polls to future community reviews so that we can state our opinions without having to write a comment.

i loved the Fig for summer. I just got the Almond and Im pretty excited to use it. It costs a lot, but I’ve gotten good deals on eBay and I know to budget beauty monies pretty tightly so I dont feel hard done by. I’m usually frugal! lol

JayJay LaDiva

I’ve tried it and I LOVE it! I use it on my hair that recently reverted back to it’s natural state and it’s the ONLY product I can use on my daughter’s hair without it becoming tangled after a wash. Trust me, it is worth the price.

That old thing back

I’m not surprised that “Hair One” does not yield good results. It’s called off brand for a reason…

I’m glad you guys reviewed this product. I have been using WEN for close to 2 years and I love it. I mentioned it a few times in discussions and I’ve been recommending it to friends and family pretty much since the first time I tried it. Any one who’s heard of it (not that many from what I can see) thinks it’s a product for people with “good” hair. That’s not the case. In fact, it made me realize how beautiful my hair truly is. I honestly believe it saves a lot of time and frustration. I don’t have… Read more »

I love Wen Lavender conditioner, but I dont love their price. I have gone on Ebay to try and find cheaper rates, but they are damn near the same. I really like Wen, but havent used it in a while :/ . Maybe if I hit the lotto I can afford it again..My hair eats conditioner like Ms.Pacman eats orbs

I tried the “Hair One” offbrand of WEN on a small section of my hair, just to test it out. It smelled great, but by the end of the day the section felt crunchy, dry and shrunken. Upon looking at the ingredients, I found ALCOHOL as the second and third components. i felt angry.  Every hairdresser I’ve ever known has said alcohol is the Death of Natural Hair. I have to agree with the first poster — Trader Joe’s Tea Tree Tingle conditioner works just as well for co-wash…extra good if you buy one of their natural oils (jojoba, vitamin e,… Read more »

after reading my own comment and just washing my hair. I will have to say The WEN, and Giovanni Tea Tree Treat.I get the same results even when I forget to add a little oil.(usually coconut oil).
And I notice my hair doesn’t itch as much when i use the Giovanni. So I guess i will say it’s about the same, except Giovanni is a much better price. WAAAAAAAY better

I tried WEN (sweet almond mint) I really liked it alot. It kept my hair sooo soft and even elongated my fro a bit. but it did NOT loosen my curls if that makes sense which i like. I had 2 16oz containers and gave one to my friend and she too loves it and were both going to continue to order and use it. Since I’ve run out I’ve been using Giovanni Tea Tree Treat conditioner to wash my hair and have been getting similar results(I have to add oils tho) But I like the wen better, but the… Read more »

I’ve been wanting to try a bunch of products…but they are so expensive =/. As soon as i can afford to, im gonna try Wen and Kinky-Curly.

Kinky Curly does require a lot of product and goes a long way. I use the Knot Today and Come Clean on my daughter’s bushel of hair. I have been reading the WEN reviews because the KC products don’t really hit the sweet spot for my natural/gray hair. Anyone have experience with WEN on gray or color treated hair?

*DOES NOT require a lot of product… pardon my typo

MY mother’s manager purchased like $300 worth of Wen products but didn’t like them on her hair (she’s Caucasian) So she gave them to us. We had two of them prior and we loved the products, so to get $300 worth is even better… I have not purchased any leave-in conditioner since.… I love it

My mother and I have been using WEN for several years and love, love, love it!!! It makes my hair feel so soft and definitely cleans my hair well! It is also good as a leave in.

Well when I was relaxed I loved the Fig, so I thought when I went natural I’d really love it but I didn’t. I liked it while I was transitioning and my hair was still straight, but once my hair was natural it didn’t give me enough moisture as it used to.  Sometimes I use it every once in a while not to cleanse with but to detangle and it is amazing at that. It cuts down my detangling time by hours, but it kind of takes all of the frizz or body out of my hair so if I’m doing… Read more »

Give the Lavendar a try! It may supply you with the volume your looking for.

That old thing back

I didn’t like the FIG either. I couldn’t put my finger on it but something was…off. I am transitioning so I thought that was the reason why. Have you tried any others? So far Sweet Almond mint and Pomegranate are my favorites, especially when I mix them together. I got 2 for 1 on QVC & I couldn’t be happier.

being mesmerized by WEN’s infomercial i ordered the 30 day trial i tried it and it wasnt even as good of an outcome as the V05 cleansing conditioner that i use from the “Dollar Tree” lol (which is great by the way) so i sent it back and got a refund i mean its ok i guess, but its just not worth the money i never spend a lot of money on hair products im a cheapskate

I have been using Wen for the last couple of months and love it. I am about to re-order this week. It gets my hair clean and it doesn’t tangle as much. I love the lavender scent. I also got the lavender oil, but I mix that with my lotion and it’s a great moisturizer for my skin!

Honestly, it seems one is better off using a favorite, silicone-free conditioner to wash. Just seems like a waste of money when the basic idea is basically co-washing and you don’t need his products to do that.

Ive tried the Sweet Almond Mint, Fig and Lavendar Cleansing Conditioners in the past-got a sample pak with all three in it from a friend who loves Wen. I really like the Wen cleansing conditioner product. The ingredients of each of the different flavors look essentially the same — minus the ingredients that are specific to that particular flavor. I recently bought the pomegranate and love it too. Hair feels very soft and I love that it is multipurpose. Ive never tried any of the other products. I wanted so badly to like the Devachan line, but it coats my hair… Read more »
The Natural Haven

Overpriced products and highly over stated claims.

Serious money spent on marketing to convince the public that the products are good but frankly many run of the mill brands have similar ingredients at a better price.

I agree, you can buy good cowashing conditioners for very cheap. It’s nothing but hype, which ups the price.

Transitioning for 16 months here. My friend is a compulsive QVC shopper, bought a package of Wen, didn’t like it, and gave it to me. I’ve had the same two bottles of the Sweet Almond Mint Cleansing Conditioner for almost a year now. I don’t really like it. Washing my hair is really about getting my scalp clean for me; Wen makes my scalp tingle and feel clean for about 10 minutes-post wash. As soon as my hair is completely dry, my scalp is itchy again, and worse, it feels coated from the conditioner. This is why I can’t co-wash. … Read more »

“I’ve taken to using Wen to shave my legs just so I can get rid of it.”

That old thing back

I’ll take them.

It is a really great product. My sisters have been using it for years and they love it. Last Christmas they gave me the big pump bottle from QVC and I have been using it regularly ever since. It’s expensive but well worth it.

I’ve wnated to try it, but have heard that long term it can be damagining b/c all it’s doing is coating the hair (silk proteins, maybe?) to make it look healthy without it actually being healthy. No idea if this is true. Any long term users out there?

I’ve been using WEN for over 2 years and I’ve never had a problem.

I’m also a long term user of WEN. 1 1/2 years now. It only gets better with time.

I have used WEN and I liked it. I am pretty dedicated to Devachan, but I like to switch it up sometimes. I do wish that they came in bigger bottles. The package I got from QVC was a joke. I blew right through that in about a week.

I buy the 32oz size on QVC for $45.00 and it lasts me pretty good. That trial size is a joke. You may be able to get 2 washes out of it.

Yes my aunt got the JUMBO sized versions, she was going to give them to me but my scalp is very sensitive to certain ingredients in those products. I’m very surprised at WEN’s positive reviews because even if I didn’t have a sensitive scalp I would’ve scoffed at Chazs’ products.

I saw him on Flipped Out and would never think he’d know a lick about black/biracial hair care, I was wrong. My bad for assuming!

I must say that WEN products are AWESOME!!! As a transitioner, this is the only product I wash my hair with. The creator of WEN calls the shampoo cleansing conditioner because you use it as your cleanser and conditioner. I use the lavender, tea tree and fig cleansing conditioners because they are the formulas for ethnic hair. I had been curious about these products and coincidentally, a friend of mine bought me some for a Christmas present 2 years ago. I have be hooked since. I was apprehensive initially because I felt that these products probably wouldn’t work for “Black… Read more »

I totally agree with you 100%!!! I also purchase from QVC. You can’t beat the Q’s bundles or their prices for the gallon sizes of WEN. I gave CHRISTmas gifts of WEN to all the females in my family. My hoard of WEN had grown so large I really felt the need to share some. I purchased 3 TSV on auto delivery two as gifts and 1 for myself. Now they are all WEN lovers.

I loved using the Sweet Almond Mint Cleansing Conditioner and deep treatment. My hair was very soft and light. The key to not having to use that many pumps is to wet hair before hopping in the shower and putting less pumps of product so that it could help melt the tangles. Looking forward to trying the Wen Fig and Pomegranate.

Fig is nice.….I think you’ll like it. I want to try the Pomegranate as well but it’s always on back order and for some reason that particular kind is not sold on the Chaz Dean website.

That old thing back

Freecurl, you are absolutely correct about wetting the hair. It’s in the instructions but a lot of people overlook that. I try to stress this when I recommend the product to friends and fam but not everybody is good at following directions. Saturate the hair, the more water the better, and detangle it while it is wet.

i tried the off-brand, Hair One, and it worked really well. my only issue is that, since it takes sooo much product to get the results (40–50 pumps for SL hair!) it’s nothing more than a glorified co-wash. you could save your money really and just buy some Trader Joe’s Tea Tree Tingle condish…

I’m a WEN girl who has tried Hair One; and Trader Joe’s Tea Tree Tingle Conditioner. In my opinion neither one compares. I use 32 pumps of WEN on my collar bone length hair. Wish I could save money and use something cheaper; but my scalp, hair; and I absolutely love WEN.
