Where do you live?
I currently live in the DC Metro area and travel consistently to NYC. I will forever rep my hometown of Jackson, Mississippi. I am an office manager/fashion blogger/student/future boutique owner.

Why did you go natural?
I was completely bored with my straight relaxed hair. I always loved big hair and was unable to achieve it with my relaxed hair so I decided to transition to natural hair. Also two of my cousins were also natural at the time and I loved their hair.

I begin to transition in June of 2008. I transitioned by co-washing my hair at least 3 days a week and bunning the entire time during my transition. I hated dealing with the two textures and bunning gave me the relief of not having to “deal” with my hair. At month 7 of my transition I was going on a 2 week vacation to California and didn’t want the stress of trying to “style” my hair so 2 days I before departing for my trip I big chopped. I had about 3 inches of hair when I big chopped but because I have a very coily texture it shrunk to less than an inch of hair.

Going natural has improved my self-confidence and and overall self-esteem. I love my natural hair and can truly say I will probably never go back to relaxed hair.

How would you describe your hair?
My hair is very coily. Its not thick at all because I have fine textured hair. Even though I have fine strands I can only style it while it is soaking wet. Styling when my hair is dry causes breakage.

What’s your regimen?
My current regimen is very simple. I co-wash, detangle and deep condition once a week. I shampoo once a month using Suave Clarifying Shampoo. I use either Hello Hydration or Suave Humectant to co-wash. I use my Jilbere shower comb to detangle while my hair is soaked in conditioner. For a deep conditioner I use either Aubrey Organics Honey Suckle Rose or Giovanni Nutrafix Hair Reconstructor. I use Kinky Curly Knot Today as my leave in Conditioner and use Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie to two strand twist. After washing and deep conditioning I either bun my hair for that entire week or two strand twist and wear my hair pinned up until the weekend and take down for a twist out.

What mistakes have you made with your hair that you’ve learned from?
I’ve made the mistake of two strand twisting my hair too small and having to spend hours to detangle.

What’s the best/most effective thing you do for your hair?
The best thing I do for my hair is not trying to style it differently all the time. I also have never flat ironed my hair and believe that this is why I have retained so much length.

Is there a blog/webpage where we can find you?
You can find me at my fashion blog: www.flawlessmistake.com.

Jade you are beautiful!! And i love your hair and style!! :)

Your hair is a very similar texture as mine. Even the way you describe your hair is similar to my description. Very tightly coiled. I love it. I’m a new natural. Just BC’d after a 16month transition and I’m happy to see someone who has similar hair texture as mine and wearing it so well.

I think we have similar hair. I checked out your blog (which is fab by the way) and I like the hair style on 4th Feb. Please let me know what you did. I don’t have your length yet but I’m bored of my curly puff, so I’ll give it a try.

What’s you hair type, in terms of porosity and density. Perusing your site I saw this post
luv the pic, and luv the hair. Any tips on getting it that way?

Have you ever had a stunt in growth, if so how did you over come it?

In pictures 2,3 and 4, are you wearing blow-outs, or is your hair just stretched from braids/twists? Also, how did you get your bun so smooth and sleek in the Vegas pictures on your blog (which I really like, by the way). Also (last one!) you and your sister (I presume, because she looks like you) are both beautiful!
