Reader Anna says;

I used to do braids and twists interchangeably but lately I’ve realized that my hair responds much better to braids than twists. For me, braids help my hair to lock in moisture better and stretch it more effectively. Lately I’ve actually found twists to be detrimental. For me, they lead to a lot of tangling and knotting and, because they are more loose than braids, I find that they trap more dirt and lint. I thought it would be interesting to know whether your readers prefer braids or twists, and why it works for their hair.

Great question! Ladies, when styling do you prefer braids or twists? Which works better for your texture and why?

I have 4c hair. I love how twists look and love the curls twist outs gives me. However twists definitely tangles my hair more and very hard to detangle during wash time so recently I resorted back to braids and braid outs as I lose a lot of hair from twists and twist outs.

Twists are already time consuming enough to put in so braids would be even extra trouble for me but I relate to the problems with twists. As my hair grows, it gets tangled especially at the roots in twists and ssks appear at the ends where the twists don’t hold well. I think it’s exacerbated by spritzing with spray in between washes. However no lint gets trapped in my hair whatsoever. I think twists can be much more drying especially on the ends of the hair which can lead to splits and retention issues.
