Introduce yourself!
Hey guys, I’m Bianca! Livin’ and reppin the town known as Chi! I like to do a lot of things. I’m finishing up my last semester of studying graphic design, but I am constantly auditioning in my free time.

Why did you make the decision to go natural?
I got tired of seeing clumps of hair in the shower from hours of daily straightening.

When and how did you transition into natural hair?
It sort of happened on its own. Before I started college I thought it would be a great idea to get my hair relaxed so it would be easier to maintain. It only made it dry and rough. In my sophomore year I also thought it would be fun to sign up to be a hair model at Vidal Sassoon, also another bad idea! The student stylist buzzed off all my hair! I still insisted that wearing my hair straight made me more alternative, but it wasn’t until 2010 that after having green, blue, purple, and horrifying orange during an at home attempt to be blonde, did I finally give in and let my hair be itself.

In what ways (if any) has going natural affected you?
It’s allowed my own sense of style to come out. I always hid behind my hipster girl swoop bangs for 5+ years and stuck to skinnies and ironic tee shirts. But when I finally allowed myself to just…”be” my confidence grew. My hair is so big there’s nowhere to hide. Might as well dress equally as loud.

How would you describe your hair?
Well I just learned today that my hair is not very porous. It takes HOURS, nearly a whole day to air dry. I also have lots and lots of thin hair that appears thick because there’s so much of it!

What is your regimen?
I have dermatitis, so I get pretty dandruff-y if I don’t wash my hair often. I use ThermaNeem on the dermatitis and it works dreams ladies! It gets rid of the itchy dryness in a jiff! AND NO STEROIDS (which has caused some discoloration in my skin in the past).

As for shampooing, I love anything with tea tree oil cause it also makes my scalp feel tingly and clean. I wash with Renpure, Organix, and Shea Moisture. I love conditioning with Tresemme Naturals or Renpure. (I switch around brands to keep my hair from getting bored.) As for after showering, I use Mixed Chicks Leave-in Conditioner, Jane Carter Solution Leave-in for touch ups and Moroccan Oil for dryer days. I have to wash often to keep dermatitis at bay, so I wash 2 times a week and co-wash 1–2xs.

How do you retain length and moisture in your hair?
DEEP CONDITION and pleeease ladies ~ TRIM YOUR HAIR. I had to get some length cut off from trying to hold on to it. The damage is not worth it. Trim your hair and your hair will thank you!

What mistakes have you made with your hair that you’ve learned from?
Self dyeing. I am the dye queen! I think I was trying to make up from all the times my mom said no in high school. I recently self dyed and was reminded why I don’t do this anymore. My hair got really dry and I had to cut some of it off after all my work. If you want to dye your hair consult a professional. I got my ombre done at a Paul Mitchell school. It cost 12 bucks and I LOVED IT FOR A WHOLE YEAR!

What’s the best/most effective thing you do for your hair?
Letting it air dry when I don’t have school/work. I can’t go out or sleep with wet hair unless I want pneumonia, so when I don’t have to be out in the elements I always try to air dry.

Is there a blog/webpage where we can find you?
Yes yes yes! Check out my fashion blog: avantblargh.blogspot.com, tumblr: avantblargh.tumblr.com…and tweet me if you like @avecbianca

Anything else you want to add?
Your hair is like your skin, if you treat yourself well on the inside it will show on the outside!

Just another lover of natural hair and expression.
