Introduce yourself!
My name is Toni Daley and I was born and raised in Toronto, Canada.

What is the natural hair scene like in Canada?
I can’t speak for all of Canada since it’s such a huge country, but in Toronto (the city I’m from) the natural hair scene is growing steadily. You can’t go too far without seeing a beautiful head of locs, and loose natural hair is becoming more prevalent as well.

Why did you make the decision to go natural?
When I finally tired of braids I was left with a full head of thick, kinky hair which I absolutely fell in love with. That was when I decided not to relax my hair again.

When and how did you transition into natural hair?
I began to experience a lot of damage from chemically treating my hair in 2004/05. I decided to take a break from the relaxer and wear my hair in braided styles. I was not intending to go natural, just giving my hair time to recover. I loved braided styles so much that I ended up wearing them for 2 years.

In what ways (if any) has going natural affected you?
Natural hair has given me more confidence, the ability to stand out in a crowd in a good way, and be ok with it. It’s also opened up opportunities to meet a lot of cool people from my YouTube channel that focuses mainly on natural hair care/tutorials/reviews.

How would you describe your hair?
My hair texture is mainly made up of course ‘z’ pattern strands. I have relatively fine, fluffy hair with no real curl definition when wet.

What is your regimen?
I typically wash my hair once a week and deep condition every other week. My favourite products are Garnier Fructis Curl & Shine Shampoo and Conditioner, Organics by Africa’s Best Hair Mayonnaise and raw shea butter.

How do you retain length and moisture in your hair?
I’m not on a length journey unlike many naturals…I’m one of the few that is content with the length I’m at and not seeking an ultimate goal. I trim my hair quite often to maintain its current length because I have fine hair which in my opinion looks thicker at a medium length. To maintain moisture I seal with oil or butter after applying my leave in on damp hair.

What mistakes have you made with your hair that you’ve learned from?
Although I haven’t encountered any major setbacks since giving up the chemicals, I have learned it’s most important listen to my hair. You can follow all the healthy hair blog tips, read all the books on the science of hair and ph test all your products, but at the end of the day not everyone’s hair will respond the same way to a set regimen…you’re hair will let you know what it likes best.

What’s the best/most effective thing you do for your hair?
Doing biweekly deep conditioning treatments.

Where do you buy your hair products?
I love hair products and will purchase them anywhere that sells them! I’ve purchased hair products from beauty supply stores, Walmart, drugstores, online vendors, fellow youtubers and even ebay.

What would you like to see in Canada in terms of hair care?
I’d love to see lower pricing on all of the well known/popular brands. I’ve often compared ingredients from products that cost $5 and $40 and saw little to no difference.

Is there a blog/webpage where we can find you?

Hey Toni,

Glad to see you representing the T-Dot! I live in the GTA and totally agree with you about the astronomical prices of certain products.

She’s one of my fav’s to watch on YT b/c she’s just so honest. I also admire that she’s on her journey for healthy hair and not solely b/c of length.

Toni is my absolute favorite YouTuber! It’s so nice to see her getting some recognition, because it seems like she flies under the radar. I think she deserves more internet praise and attention, like this!

Toni is my favorite YouTube natural hair/earring vlogger…she’s a friend in my head! 🙂

Is that your natural hairline, or do you experience breakage at your sides?

she has a video up now about her edges. they became like that as a result of using a relaxer.

Prices are ridiculous…isn’t our dollar up?
Ok…soo…can someone-including myself-in the GTA do a meet up. Pah-leez!
Keep me posted

There is already a natural hair meet up group:

Love her personality!!! She is someone who I look for in my youtube mailbox.

As a Toronto-native and Canadian girl myself, I agree with her in wanting to see lower pricing for well known brands. There’s no good reason that we should be playing $22.50 for a jar of SheaMoisture’s Deep Treatment Hair Masque. That’s double the price!

Beauty Is Diverse
