1. Bulk
Watching the bulk of wefts you place on your strands will prevent unnecessary hair loss. The bulk of the weave should never feel heavy or weighed down. The amount of tracks you invest in varies for each individual and should be based on the health, density, individual strand size and porosity of your hair.
2. Quality of Track
If you feel persistent irritations on your scalp from the track of the wefts do not simply push this matter to the side. The irritation could be caused by the materials used for the track to hold the weft in tack. This is especially the case with tracks that are hard and stiff to touch. Look for tracks that are more pliable and soft. Constant irritation can cause scabbing and scarring where hair loss could be permanent.
3. Take Note of Material
If you are wearing synthetic hair make sure you take all the necessary precautions to care for it (for example, no heat). 100% human hair allows you flexibility with heat based appliances.
4. The Right Stylist
For weave wearers finding the right stylist is the Willy Wonka golden ticket! The key to ensure you have found a natural hair expert stylist who knows how to correctly put in a weave is to ask a natural who . Yes this may involve doing your homework but there is nothing like the reassurance of finding a stylist who knows what they are doing.

What kind of hair did you use? I’m so interested in trying this and I love big hair. I ahd big hair… then I cut it all off. I want to grow it back now, but I want to protect it and have some fun too.
I used kinky curly weaves when I was transitioning as a protective style (I also used straight weaves when I first started transitioning until I cut off my straight ends). I used one that matched my curl pattern the most and no one knew it was a weave. My ends were protected and I hair grew A LOT. I would recommend getting a higher quality weave that lasts (I used Bohyme Brazilian Wave, for various reasons), make sure it matches your hair, taking care of your own hair underneath, and taking care of the actual weave. Voila.
I just purchased a half wig that looks almost exactly like my natural hair. People have asked me what products/techniques I use to create the style and when I tell them it’s a wig, they can’t believe it! I think having a wig is more cost effective and sanitary than a wearing a wig, but that’s just my opinion. :)
