Introduce yourself!
C:
My name is Carnisha. I live in Houston, Texas and I’m reppin’ Houston born and raised!! I do a lot of things, lol. I work full time, got to school, wife, mom, and I make my own all natural bar soap.

Why did you make the decision to go natural?
C:
When I was pregnant with my daughter my stylist made me stop getting relaxers. I became very curious about my natural hair texture and decided I wanted to be able to have the same hair as my daughter.

When and how did you transition into natural hair?
C:
I didn’t transition. One day after coming home from work I told my husband that I was ready to cut my hair off. He set up his at home barbershop and cut my hair all off. When he finished, mine was shorter than his, lol!

In what ways (if any) has going natural affected you?
C:
I am much more conscious of what chemicals I subject myself and my family to. I am much more confident. I cannot hide behind my hair anymore. I am very shy, but I love talking to people about my journey.

How would you describe your hair?
C:
My hair is very thick, kinky, curly, somewhat cooperative hair. I love my hair. I don’t really follow the hair typing system, but someone has told me I am a 3c/4a.

What is your regimen?
C:
I follow a pretty consistent regimen on my hair. I wash my hair every other Thursday, I use the Shea Moisture line, and I use Aussie Moist to detangle and leave in. After washing and detangling I will twist my hair in about 25 twists and let dry overnight. I just re-twist every other night until wash day. My twist out always looks best on Sunday for church 🙂 For moisture I use water, olive oil and coconut oil. I really like using my steamer at least once a month if time permits. My hair feels sooo soft afterwards.

How do you retain length and moisture in your hair?
C:
I have been very pleased with my growth!! It’s amazing to see my big chop picture to how much hair I have now. I try not to manipulate my hair too much. I am very careful when I detangle. I try to trim every other month to help reduce ssk’s. (I get those a lot if I wear a WnG)

What mistakes have you made with your hair that you’ve learned from?
C:
Early on, I colored my hair and over time it began to feel like straw. I don’t think my hair likes at home box colors :(. If I ever get another color, I will get it done professionally.

What’s the best/most effective thing you do for your hair?
C:
Moisturize! Condition! Steam!

Is there a blog/webpage where we can find you?

I’ve been natural about 2 years now. I regreted using the relaxers in my hair. It took my hair out, destroyed my texture and dandruff was unbelievable, it was such a horrible experience. I had a natural back in the 60’s when it was hot, and I was proud to represent the marvelous style. The nubian queen is expressive, she’s radiant and her beauty lights up any dimlit room.I’m here to stay and will never revert to anything other.Wear your styles proudly, and share the love with the sisters that’s conteplating that change:)

Carnisha I am blown away at how beautiful you look with a short cut. not many women can pull it off yet you have you such striking features that the cut only makes them glow like a sweet angel.

Lala

Gorgeous head of hair! Love it!

talibah

Your hair looks so beautiful and healthy. And this interview really reflects a strong and sweet spirit. Has your hairline always been that great? I have a bit of breakage especially on the left side despite the fact that my hair grows quite fast.

Carnisha

Thank you so much for the kind words!! I have always had a very full hairline :), it’s bittersweet sometimes because it make some styles hard to do bc it’s so thick.

Kesha

Hair-gasam! Put a fork in me, I’m done!

Jo Somebody

You are beautiful, you hair is gorgeous, I a loving this post!

valarie

what
is a steamer?

Kesha

Hi Valarie,
A steamer is a way to get extra moisture into your hair by enveloping it steam. Most steamers look something like hooded hair dyers, except instead of heat a steamer kicks out steam. One of the most popular brands is Huetiful Hair Steamer. I don’t own one, but I have been tempted several times. This beautiful head of hair sold it, did it?

Deborah Cooper-Asberry

You are one Gorgeous lady! I like how you mentioned that you are more careful about the use of chemicals on your hair and skin as well as that of your family! They’re blessed to have you looking out for their welfare in this way!

Your hair looks very pretty. Is that a regular 2 strand twist, or styled with pipe cleaners on 2 strand twist?

Carnisha

hairscapades

Your hair is beautiful!! LOVE it and all your styles!! I really like the updo in the third pic! How did you do that? Is it just a roll and tuck of a twist out? Beautiful. I’m also always so jealous of anyone’s hair that dries overnight! I wish! It takes my hair FOREVER AND A DAY to dry!

Okay, back to you though, gorgeous!

Shelli

Carnisha

Thank so much! Yes, it’s random pinup on a twist out. I have found that I have to style my hair damp…if it’s wet, it’s definitely a no-go in the morning.

Aby

can’t wait to have hair like that
