Introduce yourself!
L:
My name is Luna Angel. I live in Los Angeles. I’m from Northern Cali, but I rep Cali as a whole. My initials are LA lol. I am a singer, songwriter and model.

Why did you make the decision to go natural?
L:
I’ve had locks since I was a teenager. I am half Jamaican so it’s very much a part of our culture, and all my family members have locks.

When and how did you transition into natural hair?
L:
I’ve always had natural hair. Being raised by a mom with locks it was kinda easy to be in that lifestyle of natural hair and organic hair products. My mom started my locks in twists. I had just before chopped off all my curly hair and decided to grow it back in locks.

In what ways (if any) has going natural affected you?
L:
I didn’t really like it when my mom combed my hair as a kid. Growing locks was just easy and low maintenance.

How would you describe your hair?
L:
I have curly jew-fro hair lol. My dad is Jewish and my mom is Jamaican. My father had locks to his feet. My hair is somewhat coarse, but using the right products it becomes more manageable.

What is your regimen?
L:
I used to use oil on my scalp, but it attracts dust. I use Sulfur 8 Hair Lotion. For shampoo I use Giovanni Tea Tree Shampoo and Giovanni Hair Gel for styling. I also use a hair spritzer from my friends company Herb and Life. Sulfur 8 on the scalp and hair spritzer from Herb and Life keeps my locks shiny.

For styling I love putting my locks in a ponytail or up in a bun, but for every day that creates a lot of tension and pulling on the scalp, so I wear them down more often.

What’s the best/most effective thing you do for your hair?
L:
Getting it washed once a month at a professional salon where they can really get into the hair and deep clean the scalp.

Is there a blog/webpage where we can find you?
L:

Love your locs… Mine are baby still, but I’m searching for a new product to retwist with so I don’t get too much product build up… Any ideas? I’ve tried aloe vera but it just didn’t impress me!

I love locs, but I will never look at them the same way again after taking mine down after many years. I was very disciplined about the care and attention my locs received, including the sort of products I used and avoided. At the end of the day, locs — even incredibly maintained, clean ones like mine were — are full of lint, dust and product residue. I was shocked and disgusted! Additionally, much of the length is dead, shed hair that otherwise would have been lost in the course of normal styling, shampooing, etc. Fortunately, I still have about… Read more »

Good old sulfur8. I was born 1 day early, my mother’s hairdresser cancelled her appointment (she wanted to look dope for the delivery) so she put her all-time favorite sulfer8 on her scalp — she got a side-eye from the nurse for the smell but she still swears by it, Lol!

Beautiful locs! That side unfinished-fishtail-braid and the shades of blonde at bottom are awesome.
