Y: My name is Yanni and I am from Harlem, New York.
Why did you make the decision to go natural?
Y: I have been natural all of my life. For the first eight years of my life I had locs, then I cut them off and wore my hair out.
How would you describe your texture?
Y: My hair is very thick with different kinds of curls, from really kinky curls in the front, to looser curls in the back, and undefined in the middle.
Describe your styling regimen over the course of the month.
Y: Once a month I twist my hair with Palmer’s Olive Oil Formula, or just shea butter. I leave it in for a week or two but re-twist when I need to. I normally do this to give myself a break from my hair and to give my hair a break from daily routines.
What does wash day look like for you?
Y: I wash my hair once a week with White Rain Shampoo and Curl Junky Deep Fix as a deep conditioner. I part my hair in four sections, apply the Curl Junky Deep Fix, then I leave it in over night. The next day I rinse it out and either apply argan oil creme or shea butter.
Describe your favorite go-to hairstyle for days when you don’t have a lot of time to style.
Y: I’ve recently been interested in wrapping my hair. Sometimes just the front or all of it, or I’ll pull it all back in a loose puff.
How do you combat shrinkage?
Y: I’ve learned to deal with it. Even when I continuously pull down some strands it shrinks up. But over a couple of days my curls loosen up and the shrinkage lessens.
What are some of your problem areas (if any) that require special care and attention?
Y: The back of my hair. That’s where the most of my shrinkage is and the part of my hair that I don’t know what curl pattern it is.
What are 2 do’s for your texture?
Y: Moisturize everyday, and light finger detangling.
What are 2 don’ts for your texture?
Y: Wetting my hair everyday or every other because my hair will dry out, and not deep conditioning and combing.
Is there a blog/webpage where we can find you?
