Introduce yourself!
D:
My name is Diamond Mahone. I reside in Dallas, Texas. By day I work at TenOverSix, a new concept store that just recently opened in Dallas. Aside from that I have my blog www.DiamondJanae.com and I am also working on a concept brand with my boyfriend.

What is your style philosophy?
D:
My style philosophy is pretty simple. Dress how you like and don’t ride with the trends. The older I get, the less complicated I want my style to be. I have been experimenting with different looks but I never want it to be contrived, so I just do what I like. Dressing should be an effortless thing. Never take yourself too seriously because it really isn’t that serious!

How would you describe your sense of style?
D:
I would say my style is a mash up of the things I am into. It has elements of my environment, like the music I listen to, or movies that I watch. It kinda changes bi-weekly. I will fantasize this idea in my head of what I want to look like based off of all those things. I am a lover of most things that are vintage. I hoard all of my vintage pieces and like to invest in specialty things.

What is the process of deciding what to wear in the morning?
D:
I base what I am wearing in the morning on the weather, what activity I am doing, and how I feel. I don’t ever plan outfits. I like things to be organic and base it off of my feeling. I love to workout and sometimes I like wearing athletic pieces mixed in with my “regular” clothes. I can watch a movie and the next day be inspired by that.

What are the three favorite things in your closet?
D:
I actually don’t have a real closet right now. Most of my clothes are on clothing racks. I am moving and can’t wait to get a real closet again. My favorite pieces that are getting some rotation are: My Loeffler Randal Tamsin Pumps that I just recently bought at my store, Tenoversix. They have this tribal pattern by Tucker that I can pretty much wear with anything and are so comfortable. I have this vintage silk bomber jacket with gold stars that I would wear with everything if I could. I also have this vintage blazer that I got from Lulu B’s. It has a trompe l’oeil Kente print on it. I would say 80% of my closet is made of prints.

What are some of your favorite shops/websites for clothes, shoes and accessories?
D:
My favorite places to shop for clothes are my store Tenoversix, Zara for the cheap basics, and Opening Ceremony for the unique stuff.

How long have you been natural?
D:
I have been natural for 2 years now. I just chopped it off one day. I don’t really like to jump on trends and I feel it can be a trend to be a part of this “natural” phase. I deal with my hair like I do with my style. It kinda changes and I can’t ever say what I’m gonna do next. I just love the simplicity of doing my own hair and taking the time to put love and care into my hair.

How and why did you transition into natural hair?
D:
My lifestyle is what made me “transition” into rocking my natural hair. I started working out more and eating differently and wanted everything that I put into my body to come from a natural state.

What is your signature hairstyle?
D:
I would say shorter hair is my signature look. I think I’m gonna stick with this look for a while until I get bored.

Describe your styling regimen over the course of the month.
D:
As I started growing out my hair, I got bored and wanted something a little more edgy, so I tapered off the sides. I like short hair on me. It’s easy and kinda acts as an accessory, and now that I’ve been cutting my hair on the sides it makes it easier to maintain. I like the low maintenance. I wash my hair once every week or two weeks using As I Am Coconut Co-Wash. I back it up with virgin coconut oil from Whole Foods. I do a two-strand twist out with raw cocoa butter to help keep my hair shiny and maintain my twist out longer.

My boyfriend is Jamaican, has dreads, and offers some good advice like refraining from washing my hair with hot or warm water as it dehydrates the hair. I have to keep up my fades lol, so I go every two weeks to have that done. My boo likes when it grows in a bit. I like the variety. I have contemplated the idea of dreading the top, or at least growing the top really long. Who knows!

Is there a blog/webpage where we can find you?
D:
I run my own blog www.DiamondJanae.com and Tumblr, Instagram and all the other good stuff!
