Hair growth question

My natural hair journey started in April 2012 and my hair is currently shoulder length after 10 months of growth which is how long my hair was when I had a perm. Is it unrealistic to achieve APL or BSL by April 2014 at this growth rate? Idk the technicalities of how much I grow monthly or yearly. My ideal length is MBL. I keep a good haircare regimen and take Hairfinity hair vitamins. I only cowash now and moisturize often. Barely use heat. Any additional tips will be helpful :)

@augustjade87 ….congratualtions on your newly natural hair. I would say that nothing is impossible. But when you start to talk about length in a predetermined amount of time, it can get a bit sticky. I do think that you can get excellent growth in 2 years. But in terms of whether it'll be BSL or MBL, I'll say this. Each person is different. Our bodies are different, or faces are different. So based on the differences in our bodies, we can both measure one section of our hair at 8 inches and for me, 8 inches would be shoulder length on my body, but it would be collar bone length on you because the way our bodies are structured is different. I've seen videos of folks that have been natural for 3-4 years when they reach BSL, but to show you how subjective that measuring system is, I'm only 2 years natural and I'm almost BSL on my body because I have a short torso.

So with that said, and to give you a bit of perspective as to how much growth you can expect, hair grows on average

0.25in-0.5in per month. Some have more growth, some have less, hence being an average. But since you  have a good regimen set, I would say that you are well on your way to your goal. I would stick to products I know works for me, try to lessen the amount of time spent manipulating the hair, and use as little heat as possible. Hope this was helpful.

I totally agree with @Jodi-Ann P. When I first went natural, I watched everyones else's hair growth timeline on different websites and expected mine to be the same. I was repeatedly disappointed when I didn't get the growth that I expected.

The bolded is exactly how I feel about it now, and I know it's paying off.

@nkfd ….I'm really thankful that I got out of that mindset BEFORE I did the BC because only the good Lord himself knows what I would have done it I had expectations about length and texture.

I say just take it day by day. It will grow as fast as it wants. Keep your ends in shiler its child and give it TLC. It will grow but don't think your hair is going too grow like the next girl. Everyone is different.

Sure, I know one of the most effective ways of retaining growth is protective styling. Keep those ends up and moisturized! Don't mess with your hair to much, and you'll be fine! Don't worry about length so much, just keep a mindful eye on your hair so you know of you are losing hair, god forbid! Anyway just enjoy all your updos! HHJ!

Natural treatment to hair is often healthy and effective. Also doesn't have any side-effect. I think your journey is good enough and all because of your rich protein diet and no use of heat treatment. I appreciate it!
