Offline@Caribbeancurl really like how you styled your braid, really cute.
My hair has just been more of the same. 6 flat twist pinned up. I ghe a few days a week, retwist almost every day and throw on a scarf, hat, or beanie when I'm out and about. Getting bored, but pushing right along. I will be putting in either crochet braids or braid extensions in a week or so.

hopefully the crochet braids or extensions will be just what you need to give you some life after your current bout of boredom

OfflineGoodmorning beautiful and natural ladies! I am super duper exhausted from the weekend but just to give you and update on my hair! Since I have been doing this challenge, I can see a difference in my texture and curl pattern. My hair has grown, I have been taking way better care of my hair! My hair used to be real brittle and dry looking all the time but now that I have started moisturizing every day and sealing my ends and taking care of my hair I see a difference and Im in love with the difference! Im just ready to be at least bra strap length and I think Im rushing it! Other than that, saturday I did another co-wash and deep conditioner…oiled my scalp with jojoba and pure jamaican castor oil. Sealing my ends with coconut oil! I wore a puff ball saturday and a an updo on sunday for church…unfortunately I woke up and hour late for work this morning therefore I moisturized my hair this morning and slapped it in a puff but tonight before I go to bed I will be putting it in an updo tucking my ends! Hope you all have a fabulous day! I love all of you alls hair styles hopefully I can get an idea of how I'm going to do my hair this week! Toodles

OfflineHeeey ladiess!!
I've been so busy these last couple of weeks its unreal :(
I was in Wales all of last week, and preparing lessons plans for pretty much the next month -__-
(teaching life is hard)
Last Friday I went swimming, so i had my hair in 4 flat twists.
Before I went swimming I put some conditioner and castor oil on my hair because i didn't want to get any damage from the chlorine.
The flat twists actually held up pretty well, and they kept my hair from getting tangled.
After the swim, I did a bentonite clay mask on my hair, and deep conditioned. then followed up with my regular leave in conditioner and seal method.
My hair this week is flat twists in the front and a bun in the back (i'll post pictures later this week)
I didn't think the challenge would change much about my hair to be honest, but its much more manageable now, and I've noticed some growth already!
I also have a clear curl pattern now, whereas before I thought my hair was incapable of showing any definition (but that's not important)
The main thing is my hair is much healthier, and sooo much easier to style.
Hope everyone else is finding the challenge as beneficial as I am :D

OfflineHey guys,
It's been a little over a week since i checked in and let me tell you it's been a rough week. I was pretty sick so I literally just left my hair in 2 braids with the ends tucked in and left it like that all week. On Saturday i had an appointment to get my highlights re-done and i must say that helped me feel better. A day of pampering after being sick and looking a mess for a week is always good. But i messed up the challenge because in order to get the highlights they have to blow-dry your hair, so i had to use direct heat
. The good thing about getting the highlights though is that i need to give my hair extra moisture so this challenge will definitely help with keeping my tresses healthy after the color treatments.
Overall this challenge is proving to be really difficult for me, i miss my fro guys! Is anyone else having this problem?

Offline@CANDACEBRIONNE It really is a struggle. Its worth it though. I'm only in my second year of training so I can't wait until I have my own class, and I don't have to do all these daily evaluations!
I'm glad the challenge is going well for you :)
I can't wait to properly review the progress of my hair at the end of the challenge!!

OfflineAWWWW @YoAnaB718 hope you are feeling better its glad to have you back with us! The challenge has grown on me! But you just have to get back on track after putting heat in your hair…just make sure you keep it conditioned and what not so your hair wont be damaged. Other than that I honestly dont miss my hair I love doing these tuck a-ways and all that because it saves me SOOOO much time in the morning when getting ready for work! Other than that just get back on track love! Hang in there with us the challenge is almost over believe it or not! Time is going by sooo fast just know that when you start taking care of your hair and doing the challenge you will see a difference with your hair and I am so sure that you are going to love it!
@MwiwiVeevee you will definitely love your end results! I have been natural since 09 and i literally messed my hair up last year and year before last coloring it almost every week or every other week and bleaching and stuff! This challenge has really helped me out though! I said the other day in the shower that being natural is quite expensive but it is all worth it! I love my natural hair to death and I cant wait to see how much my hair has grown since the challenge! Also Im looking at where your from are you really from the UK?

Offline@CANDACEBRIONNE Woahh that sounds like a lot of colour, I've only coloured mine once since being natural, because I'm scared of chemicals on my scalp (I had a staph infection on my scalp in my first year of being natural and it's really made me think about what I put in my hair).
I used to think it was expensive, but I think now that I pretty much stick to like 3 basic products, its not as bad.
I find that with my hair less is more, but that's just me :)
Yeah I live in Birmingham UK!
Where about are you from? I tried looking on your profile but either I'm really blind, or its not on there :|

OfflineIm from the US lol I live in Texas originally from Louisiana… and yes girl I would bleach my hair at least once a month touching up my roots making it lighter and lighter…then I would take rinses and put them on there to do different colors. I was using a bleach that said it wasnt harmful like bleach in the store…all of it was a LIE so I stopped bleaching it and dyed it all one color and started taking care of it. I might do a color in the summer time NOT BLEACH though I wont like a burgundy and auburn color mixed together not sure just yet….Im tryna let this hair grow out just a little more before I start doing all of that! @MwiwiVeevee
@mommynaptural_hawkes ohhh wow! Thats amazing! Keep up the good work!

OfflineUPDATE
So i think this is week 3 for me ive been super busy as have out of town guest. But that hasnt stopped me from taking care of my hair though i am missing rocking my fro getting kinda bored. I cant rokc some of the amazingly beautiful up do's that ive seen the girls wear as my hair isnt long enough so i'll stick everything out. (*soon, my pretty; soon*).
But this week for the first half was flat twist and i kept it hidden not liking my twist to show them off but practice makes perfect so under wig and hats and scarves.
Today is wash day protein week so a co wash a dc sealing ends and then flat twist and keep it in for a week.
Hope everyone is having a great day and and even better week to come :)
I post pics once ive washed my hair im doing a pre poo as we speak im not posting pics as its not pretty.

So, I am utterly exhausted, as you will see from my pics! My 26th week of pregnancy and I feel like I should be in my 36th! But so blessed to be harboring our 2nd little blessing so just gonna stay focused on the positive!
one positive is that I'm still going strong in the challenge. My twists have just entered their third week and at the end of this week, I will take them down and wash. I discovered I actually don't mind the mini twist thing! The take down and put. In part is annoying, but once they're in, I'm happy with the versatility and I can get a few different styles in, like buns at different levels and different types of tucks and French rolls. So, this is definitely a good thing I've discovered so far in the challenge.
ive also been using an at home herbal spritz for my scalp and ends and an at home hair milk concoction to keep the moisture locked in and those have been working better than anything I've used so far, in this nearly 2 year journey, so that's an exciting discovery as well!
happy challenging, beautiful ladies!!! God bless!

UPDATEEE!! So I have just surpassed week two of my "justice braids" and they are getting rough (probably have to redo them soon). I oiled my hair with some Parachute Oil today and it made my hair really soft. Ill be back later this week with another update. How's everyone doing?
@BDanni What is parachute oil? Sounds interesting and I've never heard of it!

OfflineEveryone has such great styles! Gives me lots of ideas. Just finished a henna treatment which was pinned up under a plastic cap and my trusty silk scarf. Left it in longer than usual and I like the way it came out. I finger detangled with Yes to Carrots conditioner and used Curls moisturizer and my own whipped shea butter/coconut/essential oils mixture. I flat twisted the front/sides to my ears, then french braided the back and tucked the ends under. At night, I massage my scalp with extra dark Jamaican black castor oil. It felt thick to work with today, but I'm plugging along…

Offline@CANDACEBRIONNE and @MwiwiVeevee : You both are teachers? Awesome! I really admire that profession, it always looks stressful and much too unappreciated in my eyes. You guys are making some great hair progress :)
Week 3
I was way to stressed and sick last week to bother with my hair. This is the fanciest it got:

Just two braids that I flipped up and bobby-pinned so they would look like buns.
My goal for this week is to drink 8 cups of water every day! My roots are waaaaaay too dry, it's like my scalp doesn't produce sebum at all. I think it's contributing to my breakage issues. I'm also trying to find a good balance between comb detangling and finger detangling. My hair is very fine and very thick so I always get mechanical damage with combs. I can't get all of the hair out with finger detangling, and that leads to worse breakage and tangling along the way. Maybe I'll only use a comb once a month just to get a fresh start? What do you ladies think?

OfflineHey! I'm doing a (slightly belated) week 3 checkin. I spent most of the week in African hair threaded twists that I then bunned. I loved the convenience, but I think tying off my hair at the ends with the weave thread was a bit more than my ends could handle. Then I used one of my out days in Disney World (it's 80 degrees and 70 percent humidity so I figured there was no harm in it.) This week I'm going to use my flexi rods to stretch and then try some Downton Abbeyish styles.

Offline@taimatsuko I agree to with the one a month combing, IMO and in my case finger detangling get's but so much out. I would just be careful with the usage of it and be gentle with the pulling. But I don't think it a bad idea.
@Jesus-in-the-City congratulations on the 2nd baby. When is the baby due?
Ditto on the parachute oil. Never heard of it before.

Offline@taimatsuko you are absolutely correct…I actually started off as a teacher aid might as well be a teacher I was doing the same work as they are doing…now I work with the bad behavior kids, which can be more than a notion but I dont play with those kids and they know not to play with me! It can be more than a notion but I love kids (just dont want any of my own) and YES its an underpaid job lol!

Offline@taimatsuko @CANDACEBRIONNE Im only in me second year of training (I'm 21) and it so tough already, I'm just hoping it gets easier when I'm actually teaching because I won't have to do all my university paper work and plan lessons (bye bye social life) :|
Yeah I think for the majority of people bleaching is damaging, i bet I'd be part of that group though.
Also I don't think I've combed my hair with a comb for over 4 months now, and it actually feels more manageable to me. I think it takes getting used to, I used to think my hair was way too think to not use a comb or a brush or something, but i just do it on try, well moisturized hair and my fingers slide right through :)

Offline@taimatsuko I love your buns that you pinned together! I also have an issue with drinking water. I drink it sporadically or I wont drink anything at all smh! But I think Im going to join that challenge with you (thats a challenge in itself) drinking water!
Far as the finger detangling… @Mona that seems to work for me better. I used to would comb my hair out with a big comb or a paddle brush and not realize how much hair i was losing or damaging when doing it! I not condition my hair and use my fingers to do everything. The only time I really use a comb is when Im parting my hair into sections to style it or something! Other than that I use a regular brush to brush my hair or a toothbrush to lay my edges down!
@MwiwiVeevee well good luck my love! Hopefully the kids have better discipline, and act way better than these kids over here! They are horrible…they curse and say things you dont expect a 1st, 2nd, 3rd grader to say! Education major is pretty complicated thats why I turned it over to my 2nd choice which was cosmetology school lol!

OfflineI have been bad at updating…I was doing buns for a while then I couldn't take it and I put in genie locs last week. I went out of town for awhile and was pretty iffy with my moisturizing at night but I have gotten back on it since I got back. I miss cowashing
but I'm glad I am doing this challenge because I feel like most of the time I have been natural (3 years) the only times I properly care for my hair is when I am cowashing all the time but I need to learn other ways to care for my hair without depending on cowashing all the time
